Today I decided to leave my phone turned off. Our Saturday ritual of the farmers market felt relaxed and easy. Because I wasn’t looking at my phone, I was able to appreciate the familiar faces of the venders that grow such amazing bounty of abundance. I felt my feet connecting to the earth as I stood in line for my vegetables and breathed in the fresh air from the cool north winds, a sign of winter and stormy weather. As we drove through lush jungle roads, I saw the beauty almost as if I was seeing the island for the first time and I realized how badly I need a break from my phone because even if it’s just near me, I’m distracted by it and by turning it off and away was truly a break and a day off. Later on when we were doing yard work, I found a batch of gardenias that were blossoming in the off season, a little reminder of the springtime that is coming.
